The Michigan House of Representatives uniamously approved a bill introduced by State Rep. Abdullah Hammoud (D-Dearborn) to declare March as Social Work Month in the state of Michigan on Thursday.
House Resolution 238 honors more than 23,0000 social workers employed in the state of Michigan, as of 2017, according to a press release issued by Hammoud.
“As powerful advocates for equity, social workers have served as integral forces of change on behalf of our state’s residents for more than a century,” Hammoud said in the release.
“By naming this month in their honor, we’re proudĀ to recognize the compassionate and innovative individuals who devote themselves to protecting and enhancing the lives of some of our most vulnerable neighbors,” he said.
